Solar Energy: France to build an Institute for Excellence in Carbon-free Energy

French energy giants Total and EDF, alongside their public and private organizations have unified their efforts to create a French solar photovoltaic (PV) research and development (R&D) center near Paris, which will receive EUR 18.5 million (USD 25.5 million) in funding from the French National Research Agency (ANR).

China fixed a new solar target for 2015

China has expanded its distributed solar capacity target to 20 GW by 2015. China is set to lead the greatest uptake of solar, with plans to install more than 2GW of photovoltaic (PV) by the end of 2013. It is expected that in 2014 PV installations will rise by 17%, increasing from 15% in 2012 and 13% in 2013. The year 2014 will bring the highest rate of growth since the 35% increase in 2011.

Germany to build its longest power line to transport surplus wind

Network operators TenneT and TransnetBW have joined forces to build Germany's greatest power line to transport surplus of wind power from northern regions into the south, an important step in the country's attempt to shift away from nuclear. The objective is to build power lines to take renewable energy from where it is abundant and carry it to where it is needed.
