French multinational energy company Orano and Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited (JNFL) signed a support services agreement covering the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant (RRP) and the MOX Fabrication Plant (J-MOX) in Japan, Orano said Wednesday.

Tepco likely to decommission Fukushima Daini units

The four reactors at the Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant in Japan are likely to be decommissioned, the president of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holding Inc (Tepco) today told the governor of Fukushima Prefecture. However, the company has yet to announce an official decision on the fate of the plant, close to the damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant.

Australian solar plant to have world's largest power storage capacity

The joint venture between two major Japanese power providers has invested in renewable-energy projects abroad, such as this Indian solar farm. A roughly $1 billion solar energy project in Australia will employ one of the biggest power storage facilities in the world, with Japanese and Western companies contributing funds.

Germany to compensate utilities for nuclear phaseout losses

The German cabinet has agreed to grant compensation of up to EUR1 billion (USD1.17 billion) to the utilities forced to shut down their nuclear power plants by the Energiewende, or energy transition, that the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel introduced in response to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident in Japan in March 2011. At that time, Germany was obtaining around a quarter of its electricity from 17 nuclear reactors operated by EnBW, EOn, RWE and Vattenfall.
