New EU package adopted on the sustainability criteria of biofuels

The European Commission adopted two Communications and a Decision June 10, encouraging industries, governments and NGOs to set up certification schemes on the sustainability criteria of biofuels, including the imported ones in the EU, as to aid reach the EU target in a sustainable way, the one of getting 20% of renewable energy from total energy consumption.

ARMZ of Russia might become the third uranium producer

ARMZ, the state-controlled miner in Russia, the country with 1/10 of the world’s uranium reserves, intends to expand outside the country, aiming to become one of the third major producers in the world. It signed a transaction on Tuesday of acquiring the majority of shares in proportion of 51% in Uranium One, Canada.

TOTAL chosen to build solar plant near Abu Dhabi

A consortium among the group Masdar from the United Arab Emirates (60%), French Total (20%) and Spanish Abengoa (20%) was established to build the largest solar plant in the world, located south-west of Abu Dhabi.
