Scotland: The UK should help secure the future of the hydropower sector

The Scottish Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse, has declared recently during a visit at a £ 12 million pumped hydro storage plant at Foyers, near Loch Ness, that the UK government must cooperate with Scotland in order to secure the future of the hydropower sector. He also underlined that last year, hydro generation attained a new record level of 5,780GWh, up 6.3 per cent if compared to 2014 data.

Scotland and wind turbines reached an important milestone

For the first time on record, wind turbines alone in Scotland provided 39.5 GW of electricity to the National Grid, the equivalent of the country’s total electricity needs. The electricity consumption of the country was 37.2 GW, revealing that wind turbines have generated more electricity than was used in the whole of Scotland on a single day.
