Portugal sees green hydrogen output by end-2022, $12 billion in investment lined up

Portugal will start producing green hydrogen by the end of 2022 and already has private investment worth around 10 billion euros ($12 billion) lined up for eight projects that are expected to move forward, Environment Minister Joao Matos Fernandes said.

European Parliament wants expanded carbon border

All imports of products and commodities now under the EU's emissions trading system (ETS), including when embedded in intermediate or final products, should be covered from 2023 by a carbon border adjustment mechanism, the European Parliament's environment committee said today.

NEA, IFNEC and Poland launch nuclear financing initiative

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) has launched an initiative together with Poland's Ministry of Climate and Environment and the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC) to collaborate on issues of common interest related to innovative nuclear financing. The initiative began with a technical workshop on 14-15 January, which brought together experts from the public, private and academic sectors to discuss a number of fundamental issues pertaining to the financing of nuclear new build.

Polish group calls on Germany to reverse nuclear phaseout

Polish climate and environmental activists are asking Germany to reconsider its 2011 decision to phase out nuclear power. On 18 December, activists from the FOTA4Climate initiative submitted to the German embassy in Warsaw an open letter signed by Polish scientists, intellectuals, activists and citizens.
