Daily (05.01.2022): Brent crude back at $80 a barrel as OPEC agreed to stick with its planned output hike for February

Oil prices continued to add ground on Tuesday after OPEC+ group agreed yesterday to increase output by 400, 000 barrels per day in February as originally planned. The move provides some comfort to the market as it signals that they are confident with the demand outlook in the coming months. Hence, Brent crude increased by 1.3% to settle at $80.00 a barrel, the highest level since late November. U.S. WTI crude rose by 1.2%, to $76.99 a barrel.

Almost all German parties open for ending coal well before 2038

Nearly all parties expecting to gain seats in Germany's parliament are open to completing the country's coal exit well before the official 2038 end date. At a debate event hosted by civil society group Klima-Allianz (Climate Alliance), senior politicians of all parties in parliament except the far-right AfD signalled they would consider a much earlier phase-out if conditions were right or even actively work towards achieving it.

Gen2Energy to ship hydrogen from UK to Norway from 2023

The hydrogen will be certified using green hydrogen guarantees of origin (GOOs) under the proposed Certifhy scheme, which will require the producer to have GOOs for the electricity and for its production facility to be certified, the firm said. It expects Norwegian TSO Statnett will be the issuing body for the GOOs.
