Wind turbine giant Vestas to slash 2335 jobs

Vestas, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer based in Denmark, has recently announced its plans to slash 2335 jobs as part of a restructuration and cost reduction program. Over half of the jobs being cut will be in Denmark, where the company is based.

Gamesa to open a wind turbine blade factory in India

Gamesa projects to open a wind turbine blade factory in India which will produce turbines of G5X- 850kW and G9X-2.0 MW. The factory will primarily supply India’s northern states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The company invested 25 million euros to commission the wind turbine blade facility.

Investments into renewables to reach 260 billion dollars

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, renewable energy investments increased 5 percent to a record 260 billion dollars in 2011. Supportive governmental programs in U.S. sustained investments into solar power which rose by a third to 55.9 billion dollars, beating China with 47.4 billion dollars investments.

Largest European EV charging network to be developed in Estonia

The largest electric vehicles charging point will be built in Estonia by a Swiss power and automation conglomerate ABB. It is scheduled to become operational by December 2012 and will be the world’s first fast-charging infrastructure serving the entire country.
