Geothermal outlook in 2012

The U.S. geothermal market will add new capacities by investing at the beginning of January 2012 up to billions of dollars. Earlier in 2005, the geothermal energy became a qualifying renewable source for the production tax credit (PTC), registering a significant boost in 2011.

Tule Wind Power Project approved

The US Department of the Interior gave approval to the construction of a 186 MW Tule Wind Power Project owned by Iberdrola Renewables. The project is the first one approved for public lands among the other five wind projects agreed on by Secretary Ken Salazar and then by the governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009. The wind project will be built in the In-Ko-Pah Mountains of San Diego County, California (USA).

The British gas company Centrica has recently acquired the Ecoenergy, a leading supplier of biomass heating solutions to the public and private sector. In 2010, Ecoenergy sold 500 projects, characterizing itself as the most accomplished biomass heating company in the UK.

Germany: Green energy slowly surpassing coal, gas and nuclear

Renewable energy became the second most important energy resource in Germany, ranking just behind the lignite and even surpassing nuclear, hard coal and natural gas. The renewable energy now represents about 20% of Germany’s energy mix, an industry group reported last week.

E.ON to invest 7 billion euros in renewable energies

E.ON announced on Thursday its intentions to invest 7 billion euros in renewable energies over the next five years for the development of new power generation projects. The German utility plans to commission a new offshore wind farm every 18 months.
