Daily (05.01.2017): German spot electricity contract surges 85% on cold snap, decrease in wind supply

Crude oil prices rebounded about 2 percent on Wednesday on expectations that U.S. crude stockpiles will decline and on signs that the world's top oil exporters will cut the output as agreed, move that took effect this week. Global benchmark Brent crude futures boosted 99 cents, or 1.8 percent, to close at $56.46 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose by 93 cents to settle at $53.26 a barrel, also a 1.8 percent gain.

Daily: Crude oil plunges nearly 4% on doubts aver OPEC output reduction

Crude oil prices decreased by about 4 percent on Tuesday as OPEC’s top oil exporters struggled to agree on a deal to limit production in order to increase prices, with Iran and Iraq in dispute with Saudi Arabia a day ahead of the meeting. Brent futures lost $1.86, or 3.9 percent, to close at $46.38 a barrel, while U.S. crude shed $1.85, or 3.9 percent, to end at $45.23. That was the largest daily percentage decline for Brent since September.

Daily: European forward power prices at highest level in 10 weeks, spurred by firmer coal, spot power

Crude oil prices ended up 3 percent on Monday on renewed hopes that top crude exporters might make progress on a deal to limit production. The world’s major producers met in Algeria to discuss ways to prop up prices. Brent crude futures rose by $1.46, or 3.2 percent, to settle at $47.35 a barrel after fluctuating between $45.74 and $47.66. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures advanced $1.45, or 3.3 percent, to settle at $45.93 after a session high of $46.20 and low of $44.43.

Israel authorities give the green light for the development of Leviathan natural gas field

Israel’s government on Thursday gave the green light to the U.S. energy company Noble Energy for the development of the controversial Leviathan natural gas field which will offer Israel a second source of gas supply, with the possibility to turn it into a gas exporter.

Daily: European electricity forward prices surpass 10-week highs on coal price recovery

Crude oil prices tumbled on Friday on anticipations that a weekend meeting of top oil exporters will have little impact on reducing an exacerbated glut, even if would provide a ceiling for the market. Brent crude futures eased 74 cents to close at $43.10, while U.S. crude settled down $1.14 cents at $40.36. Both contracts declined by more than 3.5 percent earlier in the day.
