Bosnia: 52% increase in power exports due to hydropower gains
Bosnia’s electricity exports registered a significant increase of almost 52% in 2013 attributable to gains in hydropower production, according to data presented by the government on Thursday, accentuating its position as the major power exporter in the Western Balkans.

France’s energy future relies on nuclear
France’s first nuclear power plant has opened in 1964 and since then France has become a primarily nuclear-powered country, with nuclear representing 78.8% of its electricity generation. According to the IEA it exports about 42 billion kWh of electrical energy per year, being the world's largest net exporter of electricity due to its very low cost of generation, while gaining over EUR 3 billion per year from this.

Poland to continue its dependence on coal
Historically, Poland has been an important producer and exporter of coal. Poland became the principal coal producer in Europe in the 1970s. Poland consumes more than 75 million tons of coal per year, which makes it the 10th largest coal consumer in the world and the 2nd largest in the EU, after Germany.

Poland’s shale gas hopes fade on Talisman, Marathon withdrawal
Poland’s shale gas hopes have recently suffered a major blow after the North American energy companies-Talisman Energy Inc. and Marathon Oil announced that they are quitting the exploration for shale gas in Poland. Poland, the former Soviet bloc country, hoped that the exploration of its shale gas deposits will soon reduce its dependence on Russian gas supplies and will further transform the nation from a gas importer to a gas exporter.
