The Crown Estate, which handles one of the largest property and marine portfolios in the UK, has recently released the conclusion of a report that it had undertaken into the potential capacity of marine energy that is obtainable in the UK. The findings estimate that as much as 118GW could be exploited from tidal power.

Germany’s Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur has announced that renewable power subsidies tax for German consumers will increase by 47%, from 3.59 cents per KWh to 5.28 cents per KWh, by 2013.The Government added that it will extend caps on subsidies for solar energy to more technologies including wind and biomass.

Dong Energy, Denmark’s biggest utility, is likely to cut coal use and then carbon emissions by switching three of its major plants to biomass, which have a total capacity of about 1,968MW, announced the company.

The UK government is taking into consideration strategies to import wind power from Ireland to the National Grid via cables under the Irish Sea to north and west Wales. The cables would re-emerge at two sites in Wales with one of them at Pentir near Caernarfon, and the other one at Pembroke.
