EIA: U.S. CO2 emissions to the lowest Q1 level in 20 years on less coal use

U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from energy use in the first quarter of 2012 dropped to their lower level in 20 years, being close to the 1990 levels, according to recent figures released by U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

U.S EIA: 27 GW of coal-fired to be retired by 2016

Coal is projected to retain the largest share of the electricity generation mix through 2035. But as early as from 2012 to 2016 is expected to be retired about 27 GW of capacity from 175 coal-fired generators, mainly due modest growth in US energy demand along with a continuous drop in relative fuel prices of gas compared with coal, according to recent data released by U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Daily: Nordic power spot prices decline on high wind capacity

Brent crude oil climbed above $98 a barrel on Wednesday, recovering a little bit from the previous session’ losses, ahead the publication of U.S. inventory data that are expected to show crude oil stocks declining for a third week in the USA. However, the gain was limited by another round of cuts by the EIA to its world oil demand growth forecast for 2012 and 2013.

EIA: US gas production to increase by 2.3 % in 2012

In its February Short-Term Energy Outlook, the US Energy Information Administration on Tuesday slightly boosted its forecast for domestic natural gas production growth in 2012, expecting output this year to be 2.3% higher from 2011's record levels.
