In Scotland - the world’s biggest offshore wind farm will be built

The wind farm will have 339 wind turbines which could provide power to over 40% or about 1 million of Scotland’s householders, generating 1.5 GW at an average cost of about 5.7 billion dollars. Construction of the wind farm is planned to start in 2015 and will be completed by 2020.

DECC: UK renewable electricity production up 33% in 2011

The UK’s electricity production from renewable sources jumped by 33% in 2011, mainly due to a hike in solar photovoltaic capacity increasing by 12 times, a trebling of biomass capacity, and a 37% jump in offshore wind capacity, according to a recent report released by the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC).
