Crude oil prices edged lower on Wednesday, weighed by a further increase in commercial petroleum stocks in the United States. Brent oil slipped by 0.6% to close at $68.00 a barrel and WTI crude ended 0.3% down at $64.60 a barrel.

Crude oil prices strengthened significantly on Thursday, as OPEC+ summit members concluded on a marginal increase in petroleum production. As a result, Brent oil and WTI crude both surged by 4.2% to trade at $66.74 a barrel and $63.83 a barrel, respectively.

Qatar Petroleum’s recently set a new record for the largest LNG export project ever. By 2026, the country will once again become the world's largest supplier of liquefied natural gas by overtaking Australia. The signing of the contract was delayed for a year due to economic uncertainty as a direct consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. With the mega-expansion, the market could be oversupplied for years and the feasibility of other projects that are awaiting their investment decision could be in jeopardy.

Crude oil prices gained ground on Wednesday, supported by an unexpected drop in US crude and petroleum reserves. Despite limited gains due to the new strain of coronavirus, Brent oil ended 2.2% up at $51.20 a barrel, while WTI crude traded 2.3% higher at $48.12 a barrel.
