Coal to dominate the 2013 markets in China and Europe

According to the World Energy Council , China detained an estimated 128 billion short tons of recoverable coal reserves in 2011, the third-largest in the world after the United States and the Russian Federation, about 13% of the world's total coal reserves. Chinese coal production increased to over 3.8 billion short tons in 2011, making China world’s biggest coal producer.

Coal generates 35% of UK’s electricity

Coal still plays an important role in UK’s electricity generation, as in the third quarter of this year, coal generated about 35 % of the UK's electricity, according to Government figures, at the same time as gas provided 28 %of electricity, and nuclear 22 %, while renewable accounted just under 12%.

A hike in UK coal consumption may jeopardize the climate change targets

According to some data released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the rate of coal consumption in the UK thermal power generators remains at its highest levels since 2006, with the country thermal consumption at electricity generators up by 37% in comparison to the same period last year, up to 35.1 million metric tons.
