Daily: European prompt power prices firmed on forecasts for colder weather

Crude oil ended lower on Monday as robust supply compensated support from the conflict in Yemen and the declining number of U.S. rigs drilling for oil made traders hesitant after prices reached 2015 peaks last week. Brent crude for June delivery dropped 45 cents to close at $64.83 a barrel, having oscillated from $64.40 to $65.61. European benchmark hit the highest level in 2015 at $65.80 on Friday. WTI crude eased 16 cents to settle at $56.99, having fluctuated from $56.52 to $57.89. It hit a 2015 peak of $58.41 last Thursday.

Daily: European prompt power prices mixed with German spot up on lower wind output

Crude oil prices were mixed on Wednesday with European benchmark Brent ending up on continuing unrest in Yemen, while WTI crude closed down after the release of EIA ‘s report showing stockpiles have increased much more than expected last week. Brent crude rose 65 cents to settle at $62.73 a barrel after the White House declared the situation in Yemen remained precarious and more effort is needed to be done in the region. U.S. crude slipped 45 cents to close at $56.16 a barrel.

Bulgaria inks deal with Nord Pool Spot for power exchange

Bulgaria's state-owned Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) has inked a cooperation deal with Europe's main power market Nord Pool Spot intended at establishing the Balkan country's first day-ahead power exchange, as it declared on Wednesday.

EU consents rescue assistance for Romanian coal power producer

The European Commission declared on Tuesday it would permit Romania's leftist government to offer a rescue help estimated at 167 million lei ($40.3 million) to indebted state-owned coal power producer CE Hunedoara to keep it operating for the next six months.

Areva orders external evaluation of Creusot Forge unit

French state-owned nuclear conglomerate Areva declared it has ordered an external evaluation of its Creusot Forge division to find the origins of possible flaws in its practices and quality control.
