France has decided to launch a great nuclear program in 1973, when the quadrupling of the price of oil by OPEC nations was a shock for France because at that time, most of its electricity came from oil burning plants, this was the Middle East event that they refer to as the "oil shock."

Italy's Enel Green Power has announced on Monday it has connected to the grid two photovoltaic (PV) plants in Serre Persane, in the southern Italian region of Campania. The two new photovoltaic plants in Borgo San Lazzaro and Spineto have a total installed capacity of around 21 MW, and it is expected that they will produce something like 30 million kWh per year, supplying 15,000 households and avoiding the emissions of about 14,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Energy giant ScottishPower has announced it plans to invest 5.2 billion pounds in upgrading its ageing power network. The energy firm has presented its proposals to Ofgem delineating the plans for expansion between 2015 and 2023. The investment would see more than 62 miles of power cables and 30,000 substations upgraded.

The UK government has announced its initiative to encourage investment in nuclear power by offering 10 billion pounds (GBP) (15.2 billion US dollars, 11.6 billion euros) of financial guarantees to French generator EDF for the construction of a new nuclear plant at Hinkley Point.

ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of the Spanish energy group Iberdrola Renovables, has announced it has completed the expansion of the Whitelee onshore wind farm in Scotland, located south of Glasgow. The capacity of the project has been enlarged from 322MW to 539MW installing 75 wind turbines manufactured by the French company Alstom.
