Wind energy continues to be the king of renewable energy generation in the United States, with 13.1 GW of new wind projects installed in 2012, an increase of 28% on the previous year, according to the American Wind Energy Association.

Last year Germany installed about 2.4 GW of new wind power capacity with the nation reaching a total capacity of 31.3GW. Germany is investing in clean energy as it intends to phase-out nuclear power. It plans also to build offshore wind farms covering an area as much as six times the size of New York City and increase the renewable-energy production to about 40 %of total power production by 2020, in comparison to about 25%of now.

Brent crude prices increased on Tuesday, being supported by optimistic economic data and a weaker dollar that pushed up oil prices. Brent crude for March delivery climbed 88 cents or 0.78 percent, to settle at $114.36 a barrel, having traded from $113.07 to $114.49. Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil futures settled higher at $97.57 a barrel on Tuesday, up $1.13, backed by strong U.S. housing data which spurred the optimism about fuel demand.

Scotland established a target to cut carbon emissions from electricity generation by 2030, while pointing out the huge market for offshore wind beyond 2020, with First Minister Alex Salmond criticizing the U.K. government for disregarding such a target.
