Novatek in a gas deal with E.ON

Russia’s biggest independent gas producer Novatek, has contracted a deal with E.ON Russia, the Russian subsidiary of Germany's E.ON, to supply more gas in the period from 2014 to 2027. The deal would have a total cost of more than 8.5 billion dollars.

UK gas imports hit a new record in the first six months of 2013

British gas imports hit a new record in the first six months of 2013 with total quantities of imported natural gas amounting to 28.3 billion cubic meters, increasing 9% in comparison to 2012 levels, being also the highest first-half gas import levels ever seen.

Poland obtained its first gas from fracking

Lane Energy Poland, an exploratory subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, is now extracting some 8,000 cubic metres of shale gas per day at a test well in the northern city of Lebork in Poland. Currently it pays some of the highest gas rates in all of Europe.

China is on a fast track to increase consumption of natural gas

China, the world's fourth biggest gas consumer, is on track to increase the consumption of natural gas, while the demand for gas is forecasted to quadruple by 2030. Chinese gas market is rapidly gaining importance. In 2010 Chinese gas consumption was similar to Germany's and is expected to reach that of the entire EU by 2035.

China to have its first floating terminal for LNG imports

China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) has announced it has obtained the permit to build its first floating terminal for liquefied natural gas in the northern port city of Tianjin. China, being the world biggest energy consumer, intends to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix to 8% in the next two years, from the current 5 % in a move which aims to cut emissions from coal-fired power stations and reduce the reliance on oil imports.
