Italy to halve offshore exploration areas

China could soon become the biggest oil importer in the world

According to new figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, China could surpass the U.S. as the world’s largest net oil importer before the end of this year. EIA projects that total annual oil production in the USA will increase 28% in the period from 2011 to 2014, lessening the country’s reliance on foreign oil.

Poland to continue its reliance on coal

Historically, Poland has been an important producer and exporter of coal. Poland became the principal coal producer in Europe in the 1970s. Poland consumes more than 75 million tons of coal per year, which makes it the 10th largest coal consumer in the world and the 2nd largest in the EU, after Germany.

China to have its first floating terminal for LNG imports

China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) has announced it has obtained the permit to build its first floating terminal for liquefied natural gas in the northern port city of Tianjin. China, being the world biggest energy consumer, intends to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix to 8% in the next two years, from the current 5 % in a move which aims to cut emissions from coal-fired power stations and reduce the reliance on oil imports.
