Crude oil prices fell sharply on Monday to hit their lowest levels in two weeks amid ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as pandemic-linked travel ban in China. Hence, Brent crude dropped by 5% to settle at $106.90 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude shed by 5.8% to close at $103.01 a barrel.

Crude oil prices soared to their highest level since Nov. 26 on Monday, supported by hopes that the impact of the new Coronavirus mutant “Omicron” will be limited on global demand in 2022. Oil is heading for a yearly gain after a robust rebound from the pandemic, but the rally was curbed in recent weeks, in part due to concerns about Omicron. Hence, Brent crude rose by $2.46, or 3.2%, to settle at $78.60 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude increased by $1.78, or 2.4%, to settle at $75.57 a barrel.

Crude oil prices increased to hit a two-week high on Tuesday after the U.S. lifted its travel restrictions and amid more signs of a global post-pandemic recovery, while supply remains tight. Hence, Brent crude rose by $1.35, or 1.6%, $84.78 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose by $2.22, or 2.7%, to settle at $84.15.

Oil prices fell on Thursday, reversing earlier gains in a volatile session following news that Saudi Arabia's oil output will soon exceed 10 million barrels per day for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Hence, Brent crude decreased by 1.8% to settle at $80.54 a barrel, the lowest level since October 1. At the same time, U.S. WTI crude fell by 2.5%, to settle at $78.81 a barrel, the lowest level since October 7.

Crude oil prices retreated on Thursday, taking a breather after hitting their multi-year highs amid forecasts of a warm U.S. winter and concerns about the effect of coronavirus pandemic restrictions on global economic recovery. However, prices remain elevated as the energy supply crisis persists. Hence, Brent crude fell by $1.21 or 1.4% to $84.61 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude settled down 92 cents or 1.10% to $82.50.
