Ukrainian state gas company Ukrtransgaz, the gas transmission operator of Naftogaz Ukraine, has announced that natural gas reserves in the country’s underground storage facilities had grown by 48.5 per cent to reach more than 13 billion cubic metres as of June 22. The figure is the highest in six years.

According to UNIAN, Naftogaz of Ukraine will cut the minimum prices of natural gas for industrial consumers from June 1, 2019, by 7.9%, from UAH 7,558 ($287) per 1,000 cu m in May 2019 to UAH 6,963.6 ($264).

The European Commission has repeated its insistence on breaking up the Ukrainian national gas and oil monopoly Naftogaz, separating transmission from production and supply, which the country had agreed to as a condition for receiving massive Western financing. Vice President Maroš Šefčovič, in charge of the EU’s Energy Union, is in talks in Berlin with Russian and Ukrainian counterparts to try to solve disputes over future Russian gas shipments via Ukraine.
