Spain uses new technology in photovoltaic power

The new Saelices photovoltaic plant situated in Cuenca has an installed capacity of 11.38 MW and a surface area of 60 hectares. It represents the first power plant constructed in Spain, which uses amorphous hydrogenated silicon modules produced by T-Solar.

Solar electricity could reach 22 percent of global power supply by 2050

According to the International Energy Agency(IEA), solar electricity could provide up to a quarter of the world's power by 2050, thus cutting greenhouse gas emissions by almost 6 billion tonnes and reducing the dependence on fossil fuels, though government support is imperative in the next decade.

SunPower will add 40 MW capacity to California Valley Solar Ranch

SunPower agreed with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to add 40 MW of capacity to Sun Power’s existing contract with PG&E for 210 MW, executed in August 2008, as to develop a 250 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in San Luis Obispo County, CA.

Fotowatio and BP Solar plan several projects in Italy

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), an independent solar producer, together with BP Solar, plans to expand in Italy, by installing several photovoltaic plants till the end of 2010, toting up 37.1 MW, at a cost of €125 million.

Global solar installations expected to reach 11 GW in 2010

Barclays Capital analyst, Vishal Shah, has recently raised his forecasts for global solar installations for 2010, to 11 GW. In 2009, solar installations reached 7.2 GW, by 21 percent more from the previous year.
