In 2010, the leader in the global wind industry was China accounting more than half of the global wind market. The total global installed offshore wind capacity reached 3117.6 MW, of which 1161.7 MW was added in 2010, representing a growth rate of 59 percent from the previous year.

Total buys a 25% stake in Qatar offshore block

The French energy giant Total announced that it has signed an agreement with CNOOC Middle East (Qatar) to acquire a 25% stake in Qatar's Block BC offshore exploration license. CNOOC Middle East will hold an interest of 75% and will remain the operator of the block.

Scotland suggest rigorous control of the UK’s offshore electricity market

The importance of developing the UK’s renewable electricity market has prompted the Scottish Minister John Swinney to request a better control over country’s shores following a leasing of sites to marine energy companies this week for the development of 17 wave and tidal projects to be built in Scottish waters as to encourage the development of the marine and offshore renewable energy industry.

RenewableUK warns on offshore wind targets

According to the Chief Executive Officer of RenewableUK, McCaffery, an increase in the offshore wind energy share by 40% until 2030 is necessary to open up to 50,000 jobs in offshore wind market over the next ten years.
