Daily: British gas tumbles on outlook for higher temperatures

Brent crude increased over $111 a barrel on Friday on jobless figures in the United States indicating a five-year low. Brent rose 42 cents at $111.40 a barrel at 14:33 GMT, while U.S. crude traded 7 cents higher at $97.45 a barrel.

Shale gas production in China reached 143 million cubic meters

The National Energy Administration has announced that China's shale gas production has reached 143 million cubic meters. The country's largest refiner Sinopec Co has drilled nearly 30 pilot shale gas wells in the Fuling area of Chongqing municipality in southwest China, part of the Sichuan basin, one of the most promising geological zones for the unconventional fuel. Six of the wells are pumping about 1.06 million cubic meters of gas, or an average of nearly 180,000 cubic meters per well.

European Commission approves free greenhouse gas emissions permits in Bulgaria

The European Commission gave the green light on 4 December to Bulgaria’s plan to allocate €945 million worth of carbon emissions trading allowances free of charge to modernize the electricity sector, decision in line with EU state aid rules.

Daily: UK spot gas hits 8-month high on Norwegian supply disruption

U.S. oil futures increased more than $2 a barrel to hit a four-week high on Tuesday for a third straight session of gains as the January start-up of a pipeline from Cushing, Oklahoma, to the Gulf Coast would deplete crude stocks at the giant storage hub. U.S. WTI crude boosted by $2.22 to settle at $96.04 a barrel, its biggest daily percentage gain since September 18. Meanwhile, Brent crude for January delivery increased $1.17 to settle at $112.62 a barrel, after earlier hitting an 11-week high of $112.93.

Israel could supply Italy with gas

On Monday, the National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Minister Silvan Shalom and the Italian Economic Development Minister Flavio Zanonato, during a meeting in Rome, have presented the idea of exporting some of Israel’s natural gas to Italy, as Israel still has to decide where to export the amounts allocated for exports of natural gas. Both the Ministers agreed that Israeli natural gas exports to Italy are a common interest of both countries.
