Oil prices fell on Tuesday amid increased concerns of a global economic slowdown
On Tuesday, crude oil prices inched lower due to weaker macroeconomic data from China. Moreover, indications of further rate hikes in the US also weighed on prices. Hence, Brent crude dropped by 2.6% to settle at $72.26 a barrel. Meanwhile, WTI crude traded at $67.70 a barrel, declining by about 2.4% day-on-day.

Oil prices pursued their downward trend on Friday, ending the week sharply lower, as investors feared that interest rate hikes in both Europe and the United States would depress activity and hence demand for energy. Crude oil prices tumbled amid increased concerns over oil demand following Bank of England’s decision to hike interest rates to 5%. Despite lower US oil supplies, Brent crude and WTI crude decreased by about 4% to settle at $74.14 a barrel and $69.58 a barrel, respectively.

Oil prices gained momentum on Wednesday, ahead of weekly data on US crude inventories. Unshaken by the Fed chairman's comments on further U.S. interest rate hikes, WTI crude rose by around 2% to settle at $72.53/barrel, while Brent crude ended at $77.12/barrel, posting a 1.6% day-on-day gain.
