Brent crude oil chopped down because of unbalanced trade on Friday, ahead of a long weekend in the United States. Brent crude for October decreased $1.12 to $114.04 per barrel by 18:16 GMT after previously reaching a low of $113.63 prior to Kerry's speech. U.S. crude for October delivery fell $1.22 to $107.58 after hitting a low of $106.75.

British gas imports hit a new record in the first six months of 2013 with total quantities of imported natural gas amounting to 28.3 billion cubic meters, increasing 9% in comparison to 2012 levels, being also the highest first-half gas import levels ever seen.

Daily: British gas prices down on an oversupplied system

The price of Brent crude oil decreased on Thursday following reports that the UK House of Commons voted to withhold from military action in Syria. Brent crude for October delivery plunged to 114.94 dollars per barrel, down 1.67 dollars, before improving to 116 dollars by 13:50 GMT. U.S. crude oil prices for October fell 1.50 dollars to 108.60 dollars per barrel.

Petroleum products consumption increased worldwide

The world’s consumption of petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, heating oil, and other products reached a record high last year, even if there was a decline in consumption in North America and Europe. According to the Energy Information Administration, in 2012 the world consumed about 88.9 million barrels of petroleum products per day.

Poland obtained its first gas from fracking

Lane Energy Poland, an exploratory subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, is now extracting some 8,000 cubic metres of shale gas per day at a test well in the northern city of Lebork in Poland. Currently it pays some of the highest gas rates in all of Europe.
