Germany: solar PV installations more than halved in 2013

According to the federal solar industry association BSW, Germany’s total installed solar capacity additions plunged 55% in 2013 to 3.3GW, decreasing considerably if compared to 7.6GW in 2012, when it detained the world's top spot in new installations, bringing annual solar PV additions back in line with government expansion targets. Generally, Germany's total installed solar PV capacity has reached around 35.7 GW, having more than tripled over the past four years.

EWEA: European offshore wind industry adds 1.57GW of capacity in 2013

New offshore wind installations in Europe posted a new record in 2013, with 1.57GW of capacity added, a one-third increase (34%) over 2012, according to figures unveiled by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA). However, EWEA warns the growth is set to halt because the European offshore market is in a period of slowdown.

Eni to abandon shale gas projects in Poland

Italian energy firm Eni intends to abandon its shale gas projects in Poland due to unclear regulation and difficult geology, the same concerns that have already pushed other foreign firms as Marathon Oil, Talisman Energy and Exxon Mobil, to quit Polish shale. If Eni will leave as well, Chevron and ConocoPhillips would be the last two companies committed to a shale gas industry in Poland.
