Italian gas grid operator Snam to invest 11.5 billion euros by 2027

Oil prices rose by about 1% on Wednesday after the announcement of a massive contraction in US inventories amid the storm that hit the United States. Consequently, Brent crude settled at $80.04, while WTI crude settled at $75.09 per barrel.

EDF's UK Hinkley Point nuclear plant start date delayed again, costs mount
French utility EDF on Tuesday again pushed back the start date on its long-delayed 3.2-gigawatt (GW) Hinkley Point C reactor plant in Britain to at least 2029, with a new estimated cost of between 31 billion and 34 billion pounds ($43.06 billion) based on 2015 values.

€400bn needed for offshore grids by 2050
Europe’s first-ever Offshore Network Development Plan, published on Tuesday (23 January), highlights the huge investment needed to connect offshore wind farms to final consumers, with an estimated 54,000 kilometres of transmission assets expected to be built in European waters by 2050 – almost 1.5 times the equator’s length.
