China will cut fuel prices

China announced on Thursday cuts to fuel prices, introducing additional stimulus into the world's second-largest economy, which has shown signs of recovery in latest months. The Asian country will cut gasoline and diesel prices by 310 Yuan ($49.75) and 300 Yuan a metric ton, effective from Friday, has announced the National Development and Reform Commission, the country's top economic planning body.

France’s government announces gasoline price cut to boost its economy

France’s finance ministry announced that gasoline and diesel fuel prices will drop up to six cents per liter, about 4 per cent of actual pump prices, move aimed at fulfilling a key campaign pledge of President Francois Hollande. This temporary initiative will cost the French government $375 million.

The new Italian legislation on non-EU biodiesel imports

Law No.134 of August 7, 2012, ratifying the Decree Law No. 83 of June 22, 2012 on the “urgent measures for growth of the country” published in the “Gazzetta Ufficiale” on August 11, brings changes to the system concerning import of biofuels produced in countries outside the European Union.

EU biodiesel output facing high external competition

EU biodiesel imports saw a high increase in 2011 and are likely to reach 2.52 million tonnes in January/December 2011, up 21 percent from previous year. Most of the high volumes of biodiesel were imported by Italy and Spain, while the European Union imported 1.1 million tones from Argentina and 516,000 tones from Indonesia and Singapore.

EU proposing a tax on carbon emissions

According to the European Commission reports, the European Union proposed a tax floor of 20euros per metric ton on fuels that emit CO2, including gasoline, diesel fuel, natural gas and coal starting from 2013.
