DECC: UK CO2 emissions down 7% in 2011

The UK revealed that its greenhouse gas emissions dropped 7 % year-on-year in 2011, mainly due to a higher average temperature which cut the demand for heating and due to an increase in the amount of electricity produced from renewable sources, such as wind and solar, and nuclear power generation.

Daily – UK gas prices remain firm on North Sea gas leak fears

U.S. and ICE Brent crude futures continued to decrease on Thursday following a report on jobless claims disappointed and the final data on U.S. economic increase in the fourth quarter came in unchanged from the previous estimate and along with consensus expectations. WTi crude for May delivery traded at 105.91 dollars, down 50 cents, while ICE Brent crude for May delivery valued 124.02 dollars a barrel, losing 14 cents.

China: CNOOC net profit jumps 29% in 2011

China National Offshore Oil Corporation Limited (CNOOC), the country’s top offshore oil producer, announced a 29% jump in its 2011 profit, posting a record-high of 70.26 billion yuan (11.17 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 54.41 billion yuan in the previous year, mainly due to increasing oil and gas prices.

Gazprom launches Russia’s most powerful combined cycle gas turbine unit
