Daily: UK gas prices up on an undersupplied system

Crude oil remained constant on Monday on hopes for more stimulus measures to support economic growth. Oil Brent for October was traded at 114.74 dollars per barrel, up by 17 cents, while U.S. crude decreased by 15 cents arriving at 96.32 dollars per barrel.

E.ON will not build new gas or coal plants in Western Europe

Germany’s largest utility announced its intent not to build new power capacity based on coal or gas in Western Europe at least until 2020 because the market seems to become oversupplied until the last remaining German nuclear reactors will be shut down permanently, while in Eastern and Southern Europe the situation is different.

Daily: British gas prices down due to an oversupplied system

Brent oil prices eased to 112 dollars per barrel after Hurricane Isaac did not cause serious damage on oil production facilities. Brent oil for October delivery was trading at 111.50 dollars per barrel, down by more than a dollar, before recovering to 112 dollars at 12:10 GMT. U.S. crude oil was trading at 95.60 dollars, down by 70 cent. Brent prices have rebounded by around 6.5 % this month, while U.S. oil prices have reached 8.5 %, their highest levels since February.

Russia’s Novatek signed long-term gas contract with Germany’s E.On

Russia's largest independent gas producer Novatek announced it has signed a $22.04 billion contract with E.ON Russia to supply gas to the German company’s power plants in Russia until the end of 2027.

UK: SSE customers to see their energy bills up 9%

SSE, UK energy utility, announced that from mid-October electricity and gas bills will increase by 9%, blaming higher energy network costs, regulation and higher commodity prices. Around half of the cost of SSE's energy bills is determined by wholesale levels.
