UK energy drilling declines to a nine-year low

Energy companies operating in the UK North Sea, drilled 50 % fewer wells compared with April to June of 2010, mainly due to tax increases, reaching the lowest level in the second quarter since nine years, according to the industry figures.

Major gas discovery in Romania

Petrom, the biggest oil and gas producer in Romania, has reported the successful result of the exploration well 4539 Totea. The well, drilled following a recent 3D seismic program to a depth of 3600 meters in the Oltenia region of south-western Romania, is likely to contain substantial gas resources.

Exxon to make new oil and gas discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico

Two big oil and a natural gas discoveries were made in the Gulf of Mexico, emphasizing again the importance of this basin for the US crude oil production. Previously, oil and gas exploration operations were frozen by the U.S. government following a blowout at the BP Macondo well last year.

Statoil makes new discovery near Oseberg

Norway’s Statoil ASA has discovered oil and condensate in the North Sea’s Krafla West prospect. Located around 26 kilometers south-west of the producing Oseberg South find, the discovery well encountered hydrocarbons in two columns with a total thickness of 300 meters.
