Germany’s Bundestag approves nuclear waste deal with four utilities
An overwhelming majority in Germany's lower house of parliament has approved a new law on Thursday which will oblige country’s top utilities pay into a 23.6 billion-euro ($24.8 billion) state fund from next year in return for shifting the liability for nuclear waste storage to the government.

Daily: Crude oil losses 3% on firmer dollar after Fed’s decision to hike interest rates
Crude oil prices fell more than 3 percent on Wednesday as the dollar strengthened after the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision to hike interest rates and after an increase in crude stockpiles at the largest U.S. storage hub renewed worries about a supply glut. Brent crude futures ended at $53.90 per barrel, down $1.82, or 3.27 percent after slipping as low as $53.80. U.S. crude closed the session down $1.94, or 3.66 percent at $51.04 per barrel after hitting a low of $50.92.

France: Engie signs an agreement to reserve gas storage in Ukraine
French utility Engie declared on Friday it would form a subsidiary in Ukraine and inked an agreement with transmission system operator UkrTransGaz to reserve transport and gas storage capacities there, beginning with this winter.

Latvijas Gaze to spin-off ahead of market liberalization
The shareholders of Latvia’s gas utility Latvijas Gaze gave the green light on Friday for the creation of a new company in charge of gas transmission and storage, ahead of market liberalization in 2017.

Scotland: The UK should help secure the future of the hydropower sector
The Scottish Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse, has declared recently during a visit at a £ 12 million pumped hydro storage plant at Foyers, near Loch Ness, that the UK government must cooperate with Scotland in order to secure the future of the hydropower sector. He also underlined that last year, hydro generation attained a new record level of 5,780GWh, up 6.3 per cent if compared to 2014 data.
