EU Commission to award 12.5 billion dollars for transmission systems

As to reach its targets of generating 20% of green power of the total electricity demand, the European Commission released its energy infrastructure plan worth 9.1 billion Euros (12.5 billion dollars) as to modernized its transmission systems for its smart grid (installing new pipelines and power grids) and for the renewable energy applications for the period 2014-2020.

Italian PV market to reach 12.5 GW by the end of 2011

Italian solar power market became one of the largest following the German one, immediately after introducing an incentive system in 2007. In May, the Italian government reduced the feed-in tariffs as to sustain customers. According to the chairman of industry body GIFI, Italy’s total PV installed capacity could rise to 12.0- 12.5 GW by the end of 2011, while the growth will slow next year.

Western Wind stock prices strongly increased

Western wind stock prices settled a strong increase on the Toronto Stock Exchange, immediately after the announcement that Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. plans to purchase Western Wind Energy Corporation, a renewable energy developer. Western wind stock prices increased 58 percent to 2.10 dollars, having set the largest increase since June 2001.
