EWEA: European offshore wind industry adds 1.57GW of capacity in 2013

New offshore wind installations in Europe posted a new record in 2013, with 1.57GW of capacity added, a one-third increase (34%) over 2012, according to figures unveiled by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA). However, EWEA warns the growth is set to halt because the European offshore market is in a period of slowdown.

China reached a new solar record in 2013

Chinese developers installed a record 12 GW of solar panels throughout the country in 2013, almost matching the total amount of solar power in operation in the United States, and it is likely that in 2014 it will exceed that record reaching 14GW of additional PV capacity. Until now, no one has ever added more than 8GW of solar power in a single year previous to 2013, and China’s record exceeded even the most optimistic estimates of a year ago.

Eolus and Google have signed a new contract for a new wind farm

Google has signed a new agreement to buy all electricity generated from four winds farm in southern Sweden. The project will consist of 29 turbines, having a total capacity of 59 MW, and is likely to be fully operational by 2015. Eolus and Google have announced that planning permission has been granted.
