Solar electricity could reach 22 percent of global power supply by 2050
According to the International Energy Agency(IEA), solar electricity could provide up to a quarter of the world's power by 2050, thus cutting greenhouse gas emissions by almost 6 billion tonnes and reducing the dependence on fossil fuels, though government support is imperative in the next decade.

France and Italy impose carbon tariffs
French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi asked the European Union to impose carbon tariffs on the countries which are not part of a global agreement to reduce greenhouse gases, an idea which was not approved by other EU members.

Carbon-emitting power generation
According to a new study, in the coming years Europe has to make some changes to the energy system in order to succeed in eradicating carbon-emitting power generation. The measures will have as purpose the reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions by 80% until 2050.
