UK makes public its final Electricity Market Reform plan

The Government has published its package of measures which are aimed at spurring £110 billion (EUR 131 billion) of investment in the energy market and would support 250,000 jobs by 2020. The Electricity Market Reform (EMR) Delivery Plan sets out DECC’s final decision on strike prices for Contracts for Difference (CfDs) for renewable technologies.

France pledges to restrict EDF utility hikes in 2015-18

France wants to restrict state-controlled utility EDF's regulated electricity tariff increases between 2% and 3% per year or less per year over the period 2015-2018, which would see a new calculation method to take effect, said an official source in the Elysée Palace.

Chinese power demand to double by 2026

According to a report presented by the China Electricity Council (CEC), China's electricity consumption will almost double, reaching almost 8.2 trillion kWh by 2020. In the last ten years China has experienced huge economic growth, which has required an equally huge growth in capacity of its energy generation industry. China has managed to triple its electricity infrastructure capacity, adding an average 80GW of new power every year.

UK’s biggest biomass plant has opened

Britain’s largest coal-fired power station has begun its conversion to become Britain’s largest renewable electricity producer as well as one of Europe’s largest renewable electricity generators. The project will see the coal station turn to wood pellets for fuel rather than coal, a move which aims to slash carbon emissions by more than 80%. One of the generating units has been converted to biomass while the other two will be using biomass by 2016.
