Hinkley Point deal uncertain, once again
The European Union is likely to open an official inquiry into whether the Hinkley Point nuclear deal breaks the EU rules on competition. Britain in October signed a deal with EDF to build a nuclear plant at Hinkley Point in southwest England and became the first European country to offer a guaranteed power price over 35 years for a new nuclear project. Britain has said it is confident it will get clearance, but a formal European Commission probe could take years, throwing uncertainty over the nation's plans.

UK: The Big Six energy firms increased their profits five fold
According to informations from Ofgem, UK’s energy regulator, the Big Six energy suppliers saw their profit margins in the supply of gas and electricity increase to 4.3% in 2012, in comparison to 2.8% a year before. The big six operators made £53 profit per household customer last year, compared to £30 in 2011.

Ofgem: five of the six electricity distributors have to do more to cut costs for consumers
Energy regulator Ofgem has required to five of its six electricity distributors, including SSE and Scottish Power, to do more to cut costs for consumers. The six distribution companies presented their investment plans, but the only plan approved was those of Western Power Distribution’s( WPD), which customers will see a 11.30 pounds cut in their bills from April 2015.

Scotland sets a new target to decarbonise power sector by 2030
Scotland established a target to cut carbon emissions from electricity generation by 2030, while pointing out the huge market for offshore wind beyond 2020, with First Minister Alex Salmond criticizing the U.K. government for disregarding such a target.

EDF Energy the last to announce energy prices increases by 3.9%
EDF Energy has become the latest energy company to increase prices for its British customers, unveiling an average price increase of 3.9% on its dual tariff, warning that further increases may occur unless the government does not curb fees for social and environmental work.
