Germany sets new solar power record in the first six months of 2012

The German Federal Network Agency announced that more than 4.3 GW were installed in the first six months of the year, while in the same period last year were installed only 1.71 GW. This change is due to the new feed-in tariff legislation which introduced in June new monthly tariff degressions.

Belarus: AtomStroyExport to build country’s first nuclear power plant

Following an earlier launched tender by Belarus, the Russian Rosatom subsidiary, AtomStroyExport (ASE) was selected to start the construction of a two-unit nuclear power plant at Ostrovetsk in the Grodno region by the end of 2013. This will be the first nuclear power plant in Belarus.

IEA: global installed PV capacity to reach 230 GW by 2017

IEA expected great growth in renewable energy markets by 2017, while the photovoltaics industry is expected to scale up the fastest and is forecasted to reach about 230 GW in 2017, compared to just 11 GW of concentrating solar power (CSP) capacity now. Solar power will contribute with about 5% to renewable energy generation in 2017.
