Crude oil futures touched four-month lows on Monday after a sharp decline in China’s stock markets which intensified worries about the economic health of the largest energy consumer in the world, while data showed a growing crude glut. Brent crude oil slipped $1.15, or 2 percent, to close at $53.47 a barrel. U.S. crude dropped 75 cents, or 1.6 percent, to settle at $47.39.

The UK government has unveiled areas to be excluded from underground fracking activities, while a DECC’S new draft regulations has identified certain areas including national parks, areas of outstanding national beauty, the broads and world heritage sites, where hydraulic fracking will be permitted only below 1,200m, to preserve groundwater. Drinking water is not normally found below 400m.

WTI crude oil futures declined over 1 percent on Wednesday after an unexpected increase in inventories, while gasoline jumped on bets for strong fuel demand during the peak summer driving season. Brent rose 20 cents, or 0.4 percent, to settle at $57.05. U.S. crude's front-month contract fell 68 cents, or 1.3 percent, to close at $51.65 a barrel. It had slipped on Tuesday to touch $50.58, its weakest level since April 8.
