The European investment Bank to provide a 155 million euro loan to Bord Gàis

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a 155 million euro loan to Irish energy company, Bord Gàis, to support the construction of six onshore wind farms, in Counties Tipperary, Clare and Kilkenny, with a total combined capacity of 141 MW.

Areva to build a new wind turbine factory in Scotland

French nuclear and renewables group Areva has signed a contract with the investment agency Scottish Enterprise to site one of the three new factories it is opening in Europe, in Scotland, the plant would manufacture turbines for use off the coast of the UK, each generating 5 megawatts of electricity, which could supply 6,000 homes per year and could create up to 750 jobs.

Centrica to abandon UK nuclear by focusing its expansion in the US

Centrica intends to concentrate investments in the U.S., if it decides to withdraw from new nuclear power stations in the UK. It considers the prospect of higher profit margins and huge opportunities in the shale gas boom. According to senior company sources, only a remarkable change in Government policy on subsidising nuclear power would create a business case for investment.

Bulgaria to sign a gas supply contract with Gazprom

According to Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, the final investment decision on the construction of the underwater section of the South Stream gas pipeline is to be taken by the middle of November while the construction is to start at the beginning of December.
