Spain’s shale gas reserves
Spain is the fifth largest energy consumer in Europe and has practically no domestic production of liquid fuels or natural gas. It has made significant progress in diversifying into renewable energy but, this only accounts for about 9% of its gross inland consumption. A quarter of consumption is fuelled by natural gas and half by petroleum, both of which Spain has to import.

China surpassed the United States as the world’s top oil importer
China has surpassed the United States as the world’s biggest net importer of oil after, the U.S. posted its lowest import records since 1992 on the back of flourishing domestic oil production. According to provisional figures from the US Energy Information Administration US net oil imports dropped to 5.98m barrels a day in December, the lowest since February 1992, while China’s own figures rose to 6.12 million bpd.

Libyan natural gas exports to Italy halted after militias fight
Mellitah oil and gas complex, ENI’s most important facility in the west region of Tripoli had to halt gas exports on Saturday following clashes between local militia, amid increasing concerns over the stability of North Africa's hydrocarbon supplies.
