Germany to seek bids for hydrogen-ready power plants by early 2025

Germany said on Friday it will launch the first tender for the construction and modernisation of 12.5 gigawatts (GW) of gas power plants that can switch to hydrogen by the end of 2024 or early next year, following industry pressure. The tenders are part of efforts to supplement wind and solar energy and speed up the transition to low carbon generation as Germany shifts to renewables, having switched off nuclear power.

Italy approves green subsidies for 4.6 GW in new technologies

The subsidies for 4.6 GW, approved by the European Commission in early June, are part of the so-called Fer 2 legislation. It has set incentives for both floating and fixed offshore wind plants, thermal solar units, geothermal plants, biogas and biomass facilities, as well as marine plants powered by tidal waves, according to a copy of the signed decree.

On Thursday, oil prices rose despite an increase in US crude inventories, driven by geopolitical risks in the Middle East. As a result, Brent crude climbed by 1.3%, closing at $86.39 a barrel. Similarly, WTI crude rose by 1% up at $81.74 a barrel.
