EWEA: European offshore wind capacity rise by 523.2 MW in first half 2012

According to the European Wind Energy Association, in the first half of 2012 wind offshore capacity reached a total of 523.2MW, in comparison with 348.1 MW installed in first half of 2011. The power was connected on eight wind farms, six in UK waters, one in Denmark and one in Germany.

Statoil and Total: significant gas discovery in the North Sea

The Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil and the French giant Total have made a significant gas discovery in the Southern part of the Norwegian North Sea, in the King Lear prospect. Until now 7 new oil and gas discoveries were made on the Norwegian Shelf, from which 4 were made in the North Sea, 2 in Norwegian Sea and one in Barents Sea.

Germany hits a new solar power record in first half 2012

German solar energy production reached a new world record by pumping 14.7 TWh of electricity into the power grid during the first half of 2012 which represents about 4,5% of the total power production during that period. The country is already a world-leader in solar power and hopes to be free from nuclear energy by 2022.
