UK and France agreed to develop safe nuclear energy

The UK and French Governments have pledged to beef up the two countries' cooperation regarding the defense, nuclear energy and climate policy as well as trading opportunities and skills. British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Hollande agreed to develop safe nuclear energy, to build new nuclear power stations, to cooperate on climate change action as well as pushing for European Commission's domestic emissions reduction agenda.

France’s energy future relies on nuclear

France’s first nuclear power plant has opened in 1964 and since then France has become a primarily nuclear-powered country, with nuclear representing 78.8% of its electricity generation. According to the IEA it exports about 42 billion kWh of electrical energy per year, being the world's largest net exporter of electricity due to its very low cost of generation, while gaining over EUR 3 billion per year from this.

EU ministers to call for a 2030 renewable target

A group of eight national energy and environment ministers has written a letter to Günther Oettinger, European commissioner for energy, and Connie Hedegaard, European commissioner for climate, calling for the European Commission to propose a new target for renewable energy for 2030. The letter is dated December 23 and was signed by ministers from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Portugal.

First Solar set to power four new solar energy plants in France

First Solar, the global provider of PV solar systems, will supply with its modules four solar energy plants in France for a total combined PV capacity of 48 MW. The projects will be developed by the independent renewable energy producer Photosol of Paris, France. Three of the plants, with a combined 37 MW share of the total, will be located in the Auvergne and Midi-Pyrenees regions, while the fourth, an 11 MW capacity installation, will be located in Sarrazac.
