Solarstrom to build 440MW of solar generation capacity

Solarstrom ( SAG), a German developer of renewables, intends to build 4 solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in western Spain ,in the Extremadura region, totaling 440 MW. The four projects will be built by a joint-venture, which includes Valsolar, in which Solarstrom holds a 51% share.

Vestas receives an order for a new project in France

Danish manufacturer of wind turbines Vestas has received an order from Ostwind International for the delivery of 12 units of its V90- 3MW wind turbines for the new Atrebatie project in France. The Le Bois du Haut, Le Vert Galant, and Garimetz wind farms will be composed from 12 wind turbines with a total capacity of 36 MW.

Poland downsizes planned cut in subventions for renewable energy

Poland has downsized its plan to cut feed in tariff for renewable energy from 9.7 billion zlotys to a total of 2.3 billion zlotys ($738 million) by the end of the decade, according to an updated draft bill on renewable published on Friday.

Europe installed two-thirds of worldwide solar panel power in 2011

According to a report from the European Commission, two-thirds of worldwide solar panels installations in 2011 were in Europe, totaling 18.5 GW. The photovoltaic industry in Europe has increased by an average of over 40% per year in the last 10 years, at the same time as production costs have dropped by around 60%. Its overall PV capacity totaled 52 GW.

The objectives of the Kyoto Protocol are far from being achieved

The Kyoto Protocol countries have to diminish total greenhouse gas emissions by 2012, compared to 1990 levels, but according to some analysts, there will be registered an oversupply of about 13 billion tons of CO2, while the estimated demand is at 11.5 million tons.
