Oil prices increased on Wednesday, amid concerns about supply due to expected interruptions in the US Gulf of Mexico production as Hurricane Ian nears Florida. Consequently, Brent crude soared by 3.5% to $89.32 a barrel, and WTI oil raised by 4.6% to $82.15 a barrel.

Crude oil prices declined on Friday amid concerns that supply disruptions in the American Gulf of Mexico would be temporary, while recession worries cast doubt on the prospects for demand. Hence, Brent crude fell by $1.45, or 1.5%, to settle at $98.15 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude dropped by $2.25, or 2.4%, to settle at $92.09 a barrel.

Crude oil prices extended gains on Thursday, with Brent crude hitting its highest level in more than two months. The increase was attributed to the growing fuel demand as offshore crude production continued to see a slow recovery in the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of Hurricane Ida and a draw in U.S. crude inventories. Hence, Brent crude rose by $1.06, or 1.4%, to settle at $77.25 a barrel, its highest price since mid-July. U.S. WTI crude rose by $1.07, or 1.5%, to $73.30 a barrel.
