Gazprom and Wintershall sign basic agreement on asset swap

Gazprom and Wintershall have signed an agreement regarding the asset swap between the two companies. The world’s largest gas producer acquired 50% shares in UK and Dutch gas fields operated by Wintershall, as part of a Master Agreement to exchange assets with the German firm.

Total’s five refineries back to work

After a two week strike, Total’s five refineries have restarted operations, as workers at Gonfreville decided to return to work. The protesters, led by the CGT union, insist on an improved pay offer from Total but the company has refused to reopen talks after other unions approved a deal this month.

China, India, Japan and South Korea have reduced Iranian oil imports

Asia's main purchasers of Iranian crude oil have reduced imports by about 15 per cent in 2013, but imports may augment in coming months, on the rise of turmoil in Africa which menaces to tighten global oil supplies. Tough U.S. and EU sanctions have slashed exports from the OPEC member by more than half to about 1 million barrels per day (bpd).

EIA: U.S. crude oil output to hit an unprecedented high of 9.5 million bpd

U.S. oil production is expected to hit an unprecedented high by 2016, with 9.5 million barrels per day, near the all-time high set in the boom of 1970, according to the Annual Energy Outlook, released by U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

New oil and gas discovery for Eni in the Norwegian Barents Sea

The Italian company has announced in a press release that it has made a new oil and gas discovery in the Norwegian Barents Sea. The discovery is about 240 km from Hammerfest, and the company said that the well has confirmed good quality oil and gas, with volumes of recoverable oil estimated at between 20 and 50 million barrels. The discovery is part of Eni’s joint venture exploration activity to develop the Johan Castberg field.
