UK-based Xlinks is planning to build 10.5 GW of wind and solar in Morocco and sell the power generated by the huge plant in the UK. This should be made possible by a 3,800 km high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line that would be connected to locations in Wales and Devon. The company’s CEO, Simon Morrish, spoke with pv magazine about the ambitious project, and on how it should become feasible.

Crude oil prices were bearish on Wednesday, pressured by an increase in US commercial crude stocks. Furthermore, concerns over the number of Covid-19 infections which limits global consumption also weighed on prices. As such, Brent oil lost 1.9% to close at $65.32 a barrel and WTI crude fell by 2.1% to $61.35 a barrel.

The European Commission will not decide on whether to classify gas and nuclear energy as a possible green investments until later this year. The delay has caused controversy among some NGOs and consumer groups, who say fossil fuels such as gas should not be considered 'green'.
